Did you know that it is recommended that we take at least 10,000 steps every day? Depending on how big or small your steps are that works out at about 5 miles a day!

I work in an office and sit on my butt for about 8 hours, 5 days a week. So a target of 10,000 steps seems a little crazy, on the days I go for a run I think i would reach that target but think I would struggle on a typical day.

So here are my top tips for getting in that extra few steps to reach that goal:

Park further away from your office

This one is so simple! Literally just park in the car parking spot which is furthest away from your office door. You have to make your way into the office somehow so a few extra steps won’t hurt, and even if its an extra 15 steps that will turn into an extra 30 a day which is 150 a week, which is about 600 a month!

Go for a walk at lunch time

I am very lucky to work in an officer which has a woodland walk around it so it makes for a lovely 20 minute walk through nature. But if you aren’t as lucky as I am, a simple walk up the road will do. A good idea is to time yourself for 10 minutes in one direction and then turn around and make your way back. You can change the time depending on how long you have available. Not only will you get in some more steps but you will get out of the office – which is never a bad thing!


Take the stairs

Wherever possible, go up and down the stairs, it might take you a little longer but think of the steps you will be adding to your daily total!!
