Should I Be Exercising When Sick!

by on

So it feels like I have been “ill” forever now, and when I say “ill” I mean I have had a sickness bug, an upset tummy and now a bit of a cold/cough.

And although I feel worse for not getting out and running or completing a workout, I have done a bit of research to see if you should be exercising or not when not feeling 100%.

Should I Exercise When Sick?

The answer to this depends on what is wrong with you! There is a lot of advice out there, but I really liked this comment:

If your symptoms are above the neck, including a sore throat, nasal congestion, sneezing, and tearing eyes, then it’s OK to exercise,” he says. “If your symptoms are below the neck, such as coughing, body aches, fever, and fatigue, then it’s time to hang up the running shoes until these symptoms subside.”

I think the biggest bit of advice is to really listen to your body, and stop when you don’t feel like you should continue.

As most of my symptoms have been below the neck, I feel much happier and not so lazy! 😂

I did get up and do some yoga this morning and have been going out for a walk each day, but I have to admit I can’t wait to get back feeling normal again and putting on my trainers!

Do you rest and recover when not feeling well or do you just carry on?
